A Work in Progress
Have you ever felt frustrated with your progress? Maybe you've looked at areas of your life that still need healing, growth, or change and wondered, "Why am I not further along by now?"
The truth is that many believers spend too much time focusing on what isn't finished. We see our mistakes, shortcomings, and struggles, while God sees a masterpiece that is still being formed.
The Apostle Peter reminds us that God has already provided everything we need for life and godliness. Through His divine power, He has equipped us with His promises, His Spirit, and a new nature. Before God ever called us to grow, He made sure we had everything necessary to succeed.
Growth, however, requires participation.
A seed contains everything it needs to become a tree, but it still must be planted, watered, and nurtured. In the same way, God supplies the power, but we must cooperate with the process. Spiritual maturity is developed as we intentionally pursue faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love.
This process is called sanctification—the ongoing work of God transforming us into the image of Jesus Christ. It is not an overnight event. It is a daily journey.
Too often, we compare our progress to someone else's. We look at where they are and become discouraged about where we are. But God never called us to compare journeys. He calls us to remain faithful to our own process.
The evidence that God is working in us is not perfection but progression. Are we becoming more loving? More patient? More faithful? More like Christ than we were yesterday?
That's what growth looks like.
Remember, God will never have you violate the design He created for your life. He calls you more than a conqueror, the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. His purpose is not for your circumstances to overtake you, but for you to overcome them through His power.
So if you're feeling discouraged today, take heart. God isn't finished with you yet.
The areas where you see unfinished work are often the very places where God is actively building, shaping, and strengthening you. Every challenge, every lesson, and every step of obedience is part of His greater plan.
You may not be where you want to be, but thank God you're not where you used to be.
Keep growing. Keep trusting. Keep moving forward.
Because if you're still breathing, God is still building.
