Don’t You Drop That Shield

Don’t You Drop That Shield

What are you doing when life starts coming at you from every direction?

When the unexpected happens, when prayers seem unanswered, when disappointment hits, or when you’ve been standing so long that your arms feel tired—what do you reach for?

Last week, we were reminded of something powerful: God has given us a shield.

Ephesians 6:16 tells us to “take up the shield of faith,” because faith gives us what we need to withstand the attacks of the enemy.

Faith Doesn’t Mean the Arrows Won’t Come

The enemy is going to shoot. Life will have difficult moments. Fear may show up. Doubt may knock on the door. Discouragement may try to convince you to quit.

But here’s the good news: you don’t have to stop every arrow from being fired—you have to keep the arrows from setting your life on fire.

Your faith is your defense.

The shield of faith is not simply faith in what God can do. It is faith in who God is. It is trusting His character, His Word, His promises, and His faithfulness—even when you cannot see what He is doing.

Psalm 91:4 reminds us that His faithfulness is our shield and rampart.

Don’t Make a Permanent Decision Because Your Arms Are Temporarily Tired

Have you ever been tired enough to consider giving up on something you once believed God for?

Sometimes the battle isn't proof that you've lost. Sometimes you're simply tired.

Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good because, in the proper time, we will reap if we don't give up.

Your exhaustion does not mean God has changed His mind.

Your delay does not mean God has forgotten you.

Your current situation does not cancel God's promises.

Hold the shield up.

And don't try to hold it alone. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 reminds us that we need one another. There are moments when your faith may feel weak, and that's when you need people around you who will help you lift your shield.

A Battle-Tested Shield

An untested shield may look impressive, but a battle-tested shield proves it can withstand an attack.

Abraham trusted God even when the promise seemed impossible. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusted God even when they didn't know how their situation would end. Peter, however, gives us another lesson. When he took his eyes off Jesus and focused on the wind and waves, fear began to take over.

What you focus on matters.

When you focus on the storm, fear grows.

When you focus on the promise, faith grows.

How Do You Strengthen Your Shield?

Faith doesn't grow by accident. We have to strengthen it.

1. Hear God's Word.
Romans 10:17 reminds us that faith comes by hearing the Word of God.

2. Remember God's track record.
Think about what God has already brought you through. If He did it before, you can trust Him again.

3. Trust God when you can't see.
Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

4. Pray through doubt.
You can be honest with God. “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” — Mark 9:24.

5. Surround yourself with faith.
Stay connected to people who will encourage you, pray with you, and remind you of God's promises.

6. Act on what you believe.
Faith isn't just something we say. Faith moves. Faith stands. Faith obeys.

So, What Are You Going to Do With Your Shield?

Whatever you're facing right now, don't drop your shield.

Don't quit because you're tired.

Don't retreat because the battle got intense.

Don't allow temporary circumstances to make you doubt a permanent God.

Raise your shield. Strengthen your faith. Keep standing.

The enemy may be shooting, but God has already equipped you to withstand the attack.

You are still standing. You're still believing. You're still moving forward.

So raise it up. Stay faith-loaded. And whatever you do—DON'T YOU DROP THAT SHIELD!
