Messy Progress- Faith In Process

Messy Progress - Faith In Process

“In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.” — Colossians 2:15 NLT

There are seasons in life where growth feels confusing. You know God is calling you higher, but instead of everything becoming easier, it feels messy. Old habits are being confronted. Comfort zones are being challenged. Relationships shift. Emotions rise. And sometimes you find yourself asking:

“God, what are You doing?”

That is the reality of progress.

Many people expect growth to look polished and perfect, but spiritual transformation often happens in uncomfortable places. God will begin pulling things out of you that can no longer go where He is taking you. And while Heaven is producing growth, the enemy will attempt to create distraction, confusion, and resistance to stop your progress.

That is why taking inventory of your spiritual life matters.

Your cross is anything that hinders your pursuit of Jesus. It is anything fighting for greater control over your life than God has. Sometimes it is fear. Sometimes pride. Sometimes offense, insecurity, distractions, or even comfort.

But the good news is this: Jesus already won the victory.

Colossians 2:15 reminds us that through the cross, Jesus publicly defeated every spiritual force working against God’s people. That means the enemy may try to intimidate you, but he no longer has ultimate authority over your future.

Still, growth can feel painful.

Because progress requires stretching.
And stretching is never comfortable.

But what feels messy to you is often evidence that God is working beneath the surface.

Jesus Himself turned shame into triumph and pain into purpose. The cross looked like defeat before it became victory. And in the same way, the difficult places in your life can become the very testimony God uses to reveal His faithfulness.

The enemy wants believers consumed with worry instead of anchored in worship. He wants confusion to silence your faith. But God specializes in meeting people in the middle of their process.

Especially the messy middle.

That in-between place where you are no longer who you used to be, but not yet where you are going. The place where progress feels slow, uncertain, and uncomfortable.

Yet God is still present there.

And eventually, what feels messy now will become meaningful later.

Here are three things to remember about messy progress:

1. Growth and progress are rarely graceful — but they are full of grace.

You will not always get everything right while growing. There may be setbacks, questions, and moments where you feel weak. But God’s grace covers the process. He does not expect perfection; He desires surrender.

2. God works in the messy middle.

Transformation does not happen overnight. God often does His deepest work in hidden seasons where nothing appears clear. Do not despise the process simply because it feels uncomfortable.

3. Mess is often a sign that God is moving.

When God begins shifting things in your life, it may initially feel disruptive. But disruption is sometimes necessary before breakthrough can happen. God is removing what no longer belongs so He can establish what does.

So if your life feels messy right now, do not lose heart.

God is still working.
God is still shaping you.
And God will not allow your progress to remain unfinished.

What feels messy today may become the testimony that encourages someone else tomorrow.

Trust the process.
Trust His timing.
And keep moving forward.
